Chicago’s North Side
Chicago’s South Side
According to legend and some historians, the name “Chicago” is derived from the Indian name for a particular smelly onion found all over the nearby prairie. And some have suggested that Chicago has been called “The Windy City” for its hot-winded politics. History suggests that there are good grounds for this moniker. In any event, Chicago needs a fresh aroma, and we think you’ll find the Chicago Ministry to be a breath of fresh air!
We enjoy great diversity in our ministry, with a city-wide campus group of college students from many of the city’s campuses, a vibrant young professional group, a strong contingent of single adults and families, and a growing youth ministry. Our aim is to meet needs in every sector of our community.
Throughout the week members and guests regularly meet, sometimes in neighborhood ‘House Churches’ and at other times in pairs and small groups as we pursue understanding God’s will for our lives. It is our aim that together we can help to spread Christ’s aroma to one of the most important cities in the world.
NIU Campus Ministry
Surrounding Communities
The DeKalb Ministry Center is a diverse group of people from the University and DeKalb community, as well as the surrounding towns. We strive to have strong Christian faith and live in close connection with one another and with the community around us. We gather weekly in different groups for bible teaching, encouragement and support and Worship together on Sunday in a service that combines Bible teaching with congregational singing and prayers.
Our student group and our young professional group maintain strong ties with campus and young professional ministries from our fellowship of churches around the Chicagoland area as well as the Midwest. We meet regularly on weeknights and on Sunday and would love to have you visit and be part of our spiritual family.
Chicago’s West and Northwest Sides
Berwyn, Cicero, Forest Park, Norridge, Oak Park
The Metro Ministry Center serves the north and west sides of the city of Chicago, and the near-west suburbs such as Oak Park, River Forest, Forest Park, Elmwood Park, Berwyn, and Cicero. The membership warmly reflects the cultural diversity of the communities from which we come.
There are just over 400 adult members of the Metro Ministry, with a typical Sunday attendance of around 600 adults and children. To meet the needs of our Spanish-speaking members and surrounding community, we offer separate Spanish-language sermon during the second half of our worship service. We also have Spanish-language small group meetings during the week.
Each member of the Metro Ministry is part of a neighborhood bible discussion group, called a house church. These small groups provide a family atmosphere and more personal setting to allow each member and guest to feel a sense of belonging and to experience spiritual support.
Metro families come in many different sizes, shapes and hues: two-parent families, single-parent families, blended families, married couples without children, empty-nesters, widows, widowers, young singles, mature singles, and college students. In no time you’ll feel like part of the Metro family!
West Suburbs
Meets in Elmhurst
Welcome to the Midpoint Ministry Center! We are a group of nearly 600 people within the western suburbs who are committed to living as followers of Jesus Christ. Our group is a healthy mix of young and older, various ethnicities, and varied incomes. We believe this unity in diversity is a testament to the power of the gospel to change so many different lives.
Even though we all meet together on Sunday mornings, you’ll find that in many ways, we are small. In fact, we’re essentially made up of small gatherings that we call house churches. These small groups are characterized by love and devotion, and a place where we build close friendships, share meals in our homes, help meet one another’s needs, strengthen each other spiritually, aid one another in family matters (such as marriage and parenting help) reach out to our community, and anything else you can imagine a spiritual family doing together. We want every person who attends regularly, or even those who just visit one time, to feel God’s love for them through our love for one another.
On Sundays, we gather together for worship led by exceptional musicians, vulnerable sharing from members, and a sermon rooted in the Bible. Our children’s program, Kids Kingdom, is an area of focus since our community is comprised of many families. We constantly evaluate teacher training, curriculum, and safety protocols to ensure the children have a great experience at church as well!
Together, we’re striving to be the church described in the Bible (emphasis on striving!), a church with relevant and biblical teaching, inspiring preaching, heartfelt worship, honest friendships, a focus on prayer, and compassionate care for those in need. We want to influence and encourage the entire community, one life at a time. We welcome any who want to join us for Sunday worship or one of our house churches. If you would like to learn more we invite you to inquire about our series of Bible studies aimed at informing and strengthening the faith of anyone seeking to be more like Jesus.
Buffalo Grove, Crystal Lake, Evanston, Grayslake, Hoffman Estates, North Shore suburbs
The North Ministry Center of the Chicago Church of Christ is a multi-racial, family-oriented group of 250+ disciples in the North and Northwest suburbs of Chicago. Our diversity is not only cultural but generational. We have many young families as well as those who have been seasoned by over 40 years of marriage! The North Ministry Center also has plenty of adventurous singles who are striving to build excitement, unity, and faithfulness in their ministry.
One of the highlights of our family is our youth ministry. We have the second largest youth ministry in the Chicago Church. Many of our teens are in their freshman and sophomore years in high school. It is exciting to see how many of them are deciding to study the Bible and make decisions to live their lives for God. Our young-teen ministry (7th and 8th graders) is also very large and dynamic. With the committed help of the parents and those devoted to helping the youth, this is a ministry that is truly preparing our kids to love God with all of their hearts.
The North Ministry Center gathers weekly for both midweek services and for Sunday worship. The midweek services are taught within the many House Churches spread throughout the area. Due to the large geography of our ‘mission field’ we believe meeting in small groups provides an opportunity for the intimate spiritual connection needed to spur one another on toward love and good deeds. One of our greatest strengths is the mature, dedicated leadership provided by the brothers and sisters who offer themselves in this leadership capacity.
Crown Point, Hammond, Hobart, Merrillville
Though part of the Chicago Church of Christ, the Northwest Indiana ministry functions very much like a stand-alone congregation. We meet on our own in Merrillville, Indiana every Sunday at 10:00 AM. We also have various small groups that meet throughout the week in various communities in the Northwest Indiana area. We have members in several communities in NW Indiana from Munster and Hammond to Scherereville, Merrillville, Gary, Crown Point, Hobart and Portage and just about everywhere in between. The Indiana group is diverse, not only in regards to the neighborhoods we live in, but also in ethnicity, economically, and culturally. We have worked hard to blend all of these multicultural elements into a powerful, united group whose primary purpose in life is to bring glory to our Father in heaven.
It is our dream and vision to saturate the NW Indiana area with the Gospel message and continue eastward and southern expansion and do our part to win the Hoosier state for Christ.
The Southland Ministry Center is an amalgam of the many diverse communities that make up Chicago’s south suburbs. While the geographic areas from which our members travel to be together on Sunday may be vast this doesn’t in any way impact the way a Sunday service feels—like a family reunion. The stunning diversity of our fellowship emphasizes the deep-rooted faith each member has in God and therefore the love they express for one another. The fact that each Sunday is a multicultural experience often goes unnoticed because it is overshadowed by a group whose unity has been forged by decades of hard work and perseverance.
Currently, our 250 adult members enjoy multiple levels of community as we make every effort to follow Christ. We meet collectively every Sunday to worship and honor God while also meeting every first Friday of the month for a dynamic night of music, theater and thorough biblical teaching. Additionally, our “Kids Kingdom” program updates its curriculum yearly for the nearly 100 children that attend each weekend.
We focus on maturing our faith through bible study, prayer and intimate discussions in the small groups for which every member is a part. Through spiritual mentoring and regular Biblical teaching we encourage every member to actively pursue their Godly passions, and by doing so, blessing the lives of others through the sharing of their gifts.
