Greater Westland Announcements as of May 11, 2008 Happy Mother's Day!
Upcoming Events for the Greater Westland Ministry Center IMPORTANT!- Sunday Morning Worship Service by House Church Next Sunday, May 18- Due to a scheduling conflict related to commencement ceremonies at Wheaton/Warrenville South High School, we will not have access to the facilities. Because of this conflict, we are meeting for our Sunday morning worship by house church- Please speak with your house church leaders regarding your plans.
Sunday Morning Christian Education will resume on May 25 due to our facilities conflict for next Sunday - Our classes on the following subjects will continue then: 1 John- James Becknell, How to Read the Bible for All It's Worth- Various Teachers, The Quiver Parenting Class- Ed and Nancy Dawson. Child Care Provided for Parenting Class. Eurasian Missions Contribution Collection- Our collection is next Sunday morning on May 18. This is a day to celebrate our offering to support the missions work in Eurasia.
Mujer en Libertad (A Free Soul)- Saturday, June 7- The second annual Spanish-Speaking Women's Day will be held June 7th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the DoubleTree hotel in Oak Brook. Our featured speaker will be Wendy Ellis, who along with her husband Bill, lead the Latin ministry here in the Chicago Church of Christ. The cost is $35, which includes lunch. Registration for this event is now underway at Sunday morning worship services.
Singles Corner (Westland Singles Coordinators- Lee Johnson 630.441.8441 Susanne Edwards 630.414.1664) Monthly Potluck Lunch for the Singles-The first Sunday of every month, there will be a potluck lunch for the singles. It is open to all-older singles, younger singles and single parents with their children. The lunches will be at the home of Tim and Uhura Sasse. Please call 630-876-6716 or 630-940-4648 for directions. The upcoming dates are June 1, July 6, and August 3.
Singles Fun Night- Friday May 16 @ 7:30pm- Location: Tim and Uhura Sasse's home Singles Serving Single Parents Zoo Trip for Kids!- Saturday May 17, there is a singles serving event in which we will take the children of the single mothers to Cosley Zoo in Wheaton. Great Volunteer & Benevolence Opportunities Appalachian Service Project Meeting after Church- There will be a brief--but important--15-minute meeting for those who will be participating in the ASP trip, immediately following services, at the high school. Joe Dubowski will conduct the meeting in the far end of the cafeteria. This meeting is for all teens and adults planning on going on the Appalachia trip, as well as the parents of the teens.
Hesed House Volunteers Needed for the fourth Monday of every month- We need volunteers for all shifts at Hesed House, 1st shift 6 pm - 11 pm (Mon)2nd shift 11pm - 3 am (Tues early morning) 3rd shift 3 am - 7 am or 5 am - 7 am. PADS Volunteers needed for a homeless shelter on the 1st Friday of every month. The shift is 11pm to 3am. Please contact Tim or Uhura Sasse at 630 876 6716 Next available date to serve: June 6
Food Drive for the Peoples Resource Center of Wheaton- This non-profit organization feeds about 2000 families a month. They are facing the dilemma of not being able to serve the poor and needy. We are collecting non-perishable food items for the next two weeks. The food pantry needs items such as canned fruits and vegetables, boxed or bagged cereal, canned pastas, soups and more. Youth & Family Ministry Corner Important Information about Youth Camp- The dates for the 2008 Youth Camp have been announced and registration officially opened on February 3. Register early while space lasts. Discover Camp will be held July 13-19 for students entering grades 5-7 in Fall 2008. Explore Camp will be held July 20-26 for students entering grades 8-9 in Fall 2008. Quest Camp will be held July 27-August 2 for students entering grades 10 (Fall 2008) through recent graduates.
General Announcements 2008 International Apologetics Conference- Date: June 6-8 Place: Elmhurst, IL at Elmhurst College- We will be having our second International Apologetics Conference in Chicago June 6-8. The theme will be Apologetics and World Religions. There will be a 3-way debate/forum on the question: What is the true legacy of Abraham? The participants will be a leading scholar of Islam- Shabir Ally, Judaism- Rabbi Shmuley Boteach and Christianity- Dr. Douglas Jacoby. This event will be Saturday evening. A variety of classes, evangelistic events and field trips will be available. Cost will be $120. Student registration will be $90. Homeschoolers (or those interested in doing so): This year's Illinois Christian Homeschool Educators Conference will be held at Calvary Church in Naperville from June 5 - 7. Go to http://www.iche.org/, or ask Karen Wetherholt or Terri Blakemore about it.
