West Suburban Teaching

The West Suburban Teaching Ministry is a team of mature and scholarly disciples organized to bring quality, biblically based course material to the West Suburbs and beyond. The goal is to equip disciples to understand the Bible as it addresses a great variety of historical and contemporary topics. The focus is on quality preparation and presentation that is Spirit driven and exegetically sound.

The teaching ministry is made up of three areas of service that tap each team member's God given gifts. The areas consist of presenting biblical course material, writing biblical course material, and reasearching biblical topics in depth.

A key goal of the teaching ministry is to equip the saints for works of service that we might all grow into the fullness of God's purpose for our lives. This will be accomplished by offering 4-8 week classes three times a year as well as providing individual topical classes as needed. Each team member will read a half dozen or more books each year that pertain to areas they instruct in to continue their spiritual development and knowlege of the topics being taught. Early Church History - Instructor: Bruce Thompson

early_church_history_image.gif The death of Jesus was not an end but a beginning. His Kingdom and Word spread throughout the known world. The Church did well when it remained faithful to His Word and did not do well when they failed to follow it. Your faith will be encouraged by our past. Church History will inspire you to be righteous as we learn from our mistakes and triumphs.

Spiritual Formation - Instructor: James Becknell

We could forget the phrase "Spiritual formation," but the fact and need would still be there to be dealt with. The spiritual side of the human being, Christian and non-Christian alike, develops into the reality which it becomes, for good or ill. The only question is whether it is a good one or a bad one. We need to take a conscious, intentional hand in the developmental process. We need to understand what the formation of the human spirit is, and how it can best be done as Christ would have it done. This is an indispensable aspect of developing a mindset that is adequate to human life.

Saving the Postmodern Soul - Instructor: Chris Walquist

This class will explore the historical background of today's worldview confusion and point the way back toward a worldview consistent with what can be known, whether from the Bible, scientifically, or otherwise--a worldview by which a thinking Christian can live with full integrity.  We will see how even though God may not be known fully in this life, he may be known truly.
