There are two facets to the Chemical Recovery Ministry. First, Chemical Recovery is a small group ministry, designed to help people who are addicted to alcohol and/or drugs. When people find themselves addicted to drugs or alcohol, most often they have lost a significant amount of rational thinking and the capacity to exercise their will, especially with regards to their addiction. They often live in denial as to the extent of their problem. So Chemical Recovery (CR) is aimed at getting the addicted person to accept his/her powerlessness over alcohol and/or drugs. Then through a relationship with God and a family dynamic of trusting relationships found in the group, the addicted person can overcome their addiction.

The second facet of the ministry focuses on those people who have the closest relationships to the alcoholic. They often suffer tremendously and develop unhealthy relationship patterns with the addicted person. This is usually, but not always, a spouse, child or close family relative. The group helps the person recognize their codependent patterns and with the help of God and his word along with the support of the group, they can often make great healthy changes also.
